COVID-19 information: March summary

With the global effort to combat the pandemic continuing into 2021, it seems clear that optimism for a better new year ahead is linked to a speedy, effective and safe roll-out of the gradually increasing number of approved vaccines. The immunological memory to SARS-CoV-2 in those recovered from COVID-19 is also of significant interest. At the same time, second and third waves of COVID-19 are still threatening to overwhelm the health systems in many countries so there is also a continued focus on means of mass testing as well as scientific efforts towards improving understanding of both pathogenesis and treatment of viral responses to SARS-CoV-2. In this and following updates, we will continue to feature pertinent content as it emerges.

Globally, dentistry has adapted to the new specific, additional precautions for reducing the risks from airborne transmission. In this update, we can highlight a new systematic review on the efficacy of bio-aerosol reducing procedures used in dentistry.
